Many members of the British Aggregates Association are small and medium sized enterprises that are often family owned and very much part of the local community. As such the health, safety and welfare of their staff is very much at the core of their businesses.
Most members are not large enough to warrant dedicated health and safety staff and as such rely on outside support to ensure sound up to date working practices. The Association takes an active role in QNJAC (Quarries National Joint Advisory Committee) which provides essential health and safety guidance for quarries. Members of the BAA also take an active part in the MPQC (Mineral Products Qualifications Council).
To assist members with the day to day management the BAA operates a robust assessment of operating standards scheme details of which can be found here.
